Innovation Investment Funds

Social media stands for new interactive tools, that enable shared and user generated content in the internet. What could be the role of Wiki, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Ning, and blogs in the field of building automation?

* pictures
* video-sharing
* digital storytelling

Self-organizing networks makes it possible for engineers, teachers, research and business people, trainers, entrepreneurs, and others interested in social media to network and solve problems together in open collaboration.

* share the work load
* working together over Internet
* organizing work and problem solving

It takes money to make money. I'm sure you have heard that many times before. Maybe it has been your excuse for not starting a Business. Every business is going to need working capital but you don't need to rob a bank. There are numerous ways to fund your new business or future expansion.

The financial crisis has not made the financing of start-ups and second round ventures easy. The investors are going to ask you a lot of questions. One of the most important is how your business is going to produce a healthy revenue stream.

1. You need a business plan
2. Executive report
3. A blog presenting your venture
4. Track record of past performance
5. A list of references
6. Documentation of your product and service
7. Powerpoint presentation (10 slides)
8. Cash-flow 2.0 - how to improve your day to day cash-flow
9. A powerful Partnership Program
10. Good Luck!

Direct investments are divided into buy-outs and technology investments. Our partner raises capital from institutional investors and invests the fund capital, primarily in selected unlisted companies. Typically, after a development phase of two to five years, portfolio companies are exited, either through stock market listings or trade sales. The aim is to achieve the highest possible return on invested capital.

I've been talking about a next generation real estate project where big industrial buildings could be remodeled into new functions. The idea is to make an integration of many business and social activities into a industrial complex that has ceased to exist. It's a design challenge where open innovation could be used to search and establish the new activities. There are plenty of these in Finland but even more all over the world. Any ideas about how to proceed with and open mind?

Take a look at the world's biggest net value losers before you start to wonder what happened to your own bank account. The times are ruff even for the super rich.

Here is my first long live recording documentation covering the Slush Helsinki 2008. I'll compare notes with Kitti later on. Would be happy to have your comments. I also place this into Social Media. This was a live distance reporting test.

This is a good video about the global economy.

Kai Nyman, you wrote: This new economy will be based on global horizontal communication and cultural strcutures and definitely it will take time to be implemented.

Take a look at what Juha Mentu wrote here about the tradition of search, research, and talking with a big coffee mug in hand within the paper industry before the contemporary social media platforms (eg. Ning).

This is in Finnish: Tapamme etsiä informaatiota muuttuu.

The virtualization of business means (among others):
- virtualization of business agreements (this needs some legislatory support)
- a structure for recognizing and making agreements
- new working methods through the social media
- new attitude towards openess of communication

These things take time to become acceped but the society that is able to support the change process is going to be the most competitive in the new emerging structure of economy. This new economy will be based on global horizontal communication and cultural strcutures and definitely it will take time to be implemented.

I fully agree with you that the next big thing will somehow be based on these social media based horizontal structures.

Kai Nyman, I see a huge potential in the virtualization of business operations with Web 2.0 and Social Media Applications. Unified Communication and Collaboration (Cisco, IBM, Nokia, TietoEnator, Elisa, etc.) and the move towards from "one to one" or "one to many" communication model towards "many to many" open innovation and co-creation.

But the change required in old enterprises like the Finnish forestry sector is a huge challenge. The "old companies" are not out here in the blogosphere twittering or jaikuing. Facebook, Ning, Friendfeed, Pownce and many others are just for kids or a threat for daily productivity or loss of intellectual property.

Most owners and directors of Small and Medium Size Enterprises don't know what we are talking about. They still live in a desktop environment where information has to be protected in-house in Intranets and not a single thing should leak out.

The idea of social media is very simple. We go to cafeterias or to seminars and speak with people and get most of the new ideas in the corridors or eventually in the hotel lobby bar. The seminar powerpoints could just as easily be posted over Internet (they are intended for a larger public).

Soical Media is a way of making friends with people we wouldn't meet without the easy of digital communication.

But why are the features, benefits, and advantages of Social Media and Virtualization of Organizations so difficult to understand in big and small companies?

Kai, you have insights from big corporations. What could we do to change the attitude? I think there is also a foundation to a new knowledge business with a global reach. There are already many players data mining this emerging market segment but we are just at the beginning. There is plenty to do. We've a lot of talented people in our networks. Can we transfer these social contacts and networks into profitable business operations?

Yes - it is sometimes better to forget about the nasty things that are going on in the banking sector and now in the real economy as well. It is a good question to ask about what is the next big thing. I think it has something to do with the popularity of Internet and social media just as Kari Hintikka has been pointing to me so very many times.
