I think, we're soon going to see a boost in research and development. A dramatic change is needed. You know it, just as Elias, and many of our friends. I think that soon even politicians will start to listen to knowledge workers. The time of easy money is over. Innovation is the next big thing, not just in powerpoints but in real life.

A letter by my friend "IM":

IM is wondering, what will the future of P&P be like.

Referring his ideas, five major topics are needed:

1 PRODUCT: you shall have some product which is really needed among customers. An example: LPB (everybody will buy milk and juice in carton packages every day during her/his lifetime).

2 PERSONNEL: persons on all levels of the company, interested to sell good products.

3 MARKET: the only question: are the customers well aware about your product? If not, why?

4 RESEARCH: R&D in P&P is not a region of "sunset". A lot can be done to improve the quality of products, production etc. It would be possible to find even new products: why not to sell motor oil in LPB containers?

5 DEVELOPMENT. This is the most difficult issue. R&D is interested to develop new ideas but the economists do not see any forecasts for the innovations - why?

- O.K. IM is just a microbiologist and do not understand the global economy. He is still asking, however: where is the development and optimistic forecasts in P&P industry?

IM will also ask: are the Asian people more enthusiastic to develop P&P industry? Not only economically but also in their minds?

According to US economist Jim Bianco, the credit crunch has already cost America more than the New Deal, World War Two, the moon landing and the savings and loan crisis combined!

Over $4.3 trillion spent on Wall Street and not a single battle victory, bridge, dam, railroad, or footprint on the moon to show for it. That's a lot of new money Feds are pumping into the economy.

And press reports in America suggest that President-elect Obama may sign an economic stimulus package worth nearly US$1 trillion.

Huge amounts of money is spent on incentives. There are those who think, it would be better to build bridges and roads, investments in infrastructure would provide jobs.

I've learned a lot about the Indian, Mumbai (Bombay) situation during the past two days. A small determined group can do a lot of damage. We're not safe at in any point of the world. That's the lesson.

Valtaa on ennekin siirretty sukupolvelta toiselle.

Why Economists support Barack Obama for president?

This is a short quote from the Daily Kos blog: "This idea goes back to Adam Smith, who published "The Wealth of Nations," fittingly, in 1776. A fun example was given by Tim Harford in his great book "The Undercover Economist." He asks "Who coordinates the bread supply to London?" It sounds like a daunting job until you realize the answer, of course, is no one! That famous invisible hand results in each store owner ordering just the amount he expects to sell, etc., so that the amount supplied is very close to the amount demanded. The decentralized market works so well that it allocates resources better than the most brilliant centralized planner. Markets not only work, their evolution is so inevitably tied to human nature that they arise "underground" when governments try to prohibit them (e.g. not only Soviet Russia, but ticket scalping, the illegal drug trade, etc.)"
