The Futurologist Jari Kaivo-oja spoke yesterday in Lapinlahti (Yla-Savvo) about Climate Change 2050 and Energy alternativees. There was an interesting discussion about the transition time management and the change programs needed in Finland to get to the frontline in the areas of 1) bioeconomy, 2) cleantech and 3) digitalization. The challenge is to get SMEs to grow and become more international.

Biotechnology offers a wide range of tools to the bioenergy industry. Through them, new energy production technologies can be created, for the efficient utilization of biomass and energy crops.
These energy production technologies could include:
- Biological optimization of bioethanol production
- Biological production of hydrogen
- Development of energy crops with advanced properties
Energy production from biomass coming from several sources is already a reality in Spain. Private companies, as well as the government and technological centers, are strongly pushing for bioenergy future development.
Spain has talented researchers in the bioenergy field:
- IREC (Energy Research Institute of Catalonia)
- Bioenergy Group, University of Seville
- Spanish Biomass Technological Platform (BIOPLAT)
INVEST IN SPAIN offers, without charge, an integrated investment support service!

Deepening recession and the falling demand of woodworking industry´s traditional products have forced also sawmilling industry to find new and more fertile solutions to improve their operational preconditions.
In recent years, the role of bioenergy production has often been highlighted as a part of sawmills´ business repertoire.
Sawmilling produces naturally a lot of by-products (e.g. bark, sawdust, chips) which could be exploited more effectively in energy production, and this would bring more incomes or maybe even create new business opportunities for sawmills.
Production of bioenergy is also supported by government´s climate and energy policies favouring renewable energy sources, public financial subsidies, and soaring prices of fossil fuels.
Also the decreasing production of domestic pulp and paper industry releases a fair amount of sawmills´ by-products for other uses.
Professionals of wood and bioenergy industries meet again at the Wood and Bioenergy 2013 exhibition. Organized since 1989 the event has established itself as a leading event of the industry.

Take a look at the exhibitors:350 companies at display on 200 stands.
I was there , meeting and talking with experts, exhibitors and visitors. Jyväskylä's central location and functional facilities of Jyväskylä Paviljonki provide the event with a professional framework it deserves. Wood and Bioenergy exhibition represents wide-ranging the whole timber industry.
Cristal Union: Our status as an agricultural cooperative, our drive towards the long-term management of the assets of our 5,000 planters and our culture of industrial optimization explain and shape our long-standing commitment to sustainable development.
The production of organic and sustainable fuels, investments to reduce our energy consumption or to consume biomass energy to replace fossil fuels, carbon assessments and life cycle analyses conducted for the past several years, agronomics support to well-managed agriculture… are a few examples.

Lignocellulosic materials from forest, agriculture, set-aside lands or industry, mainly made up of lignin, cellulose, and hemicelluloses, are potential feedstocks for bioprocess utilization.
Global trends such as climate change and urbanization shape the way we live and the way we do business.
We need a diverse range of skills to communicate and collaborate with our customers and prospects in the fields of:

As human beings, we rely on the nature around us for the quality of life and the supply of necessities such as food and water.
Security of power supplies, climate change and energy efficieny are top priorities on the global agenda.
In the spring of 2013, the Bioenergy team of 21 persons participated in a most interesting trip to Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany. The journey became a fact-finding-mission focusing on bioenergy, solar energy, windmills, biogas units, pellets, briketts, etc.

We'd a great Bioenergy trip to Germany with a group of 21 persons, Irja and myself included. I'll be writing about the destinations and technolgies during the coming weeks.
The picture features us during the second evening in Germany on the way to a local restaurant. It was great fun.
